Weekend Away with the family and giveaway!

HermanusHarbour House

Our little newborn is now 6 weeks old and we decided to celebrate her first smile ( I swear she smiled at me first, but my husband insists it was a wind and HE actually got the first smile) with a little trip to Hermanus. Yes, we braved the traffic with a toddler and a newborn and set off over the beautiful Sir Lowry’s Pass and it was well worth it! The two munckins did subject us to a 10 min period of ping-pong crying, but we were brave, strong and resilient! The Western Cape weather, though usually reliably unreliable, decided to play along and granted us glorious sunshine all weekend. It seems the best time to enjoy our little country’s beauty is when the tourist season has moved on to the northern hemisphere and we don’t have to flex our Rand’s muscles against the all powerful Pounds, Dollars and Euros.

(Just an aside – keep an eye out for all the winter specials! In fact, I just saw some great restaurant specials countrywide and this is the link click this for winter restaurant specials)

We checked into the Le Paradis apartments (click here to view them) which are across from the ocean and boast incredible views. What a treat to have space to yourself as a family and a kitchen (a luxurious one at that) and be able to settle in for a comfortable stay. When it comes to traveling with children, a kitchen is most welcome and it was such a pleasure to be able to prepare their meals and watch our toddler play in the garden whilst doing so. The apartments are affiliated with the famous Harbour House hotel next door which has one of the most iconic infinity swimming pools on the southern coast of our continent. We enjoyed breakfast there and could watch our little one run around the garden as we enjoyed our Eggs Benedict and perfectly foamy cappuccinos. I sat at the pool with our little baby and had the best view over the bay whilst giving her her breakfast under a little feeding shawl. We even spotted about 100 dolphins in the bay and though it’s not whale season currently, I think I might have seen 1 or 2 of them spying on me whilst my little calf suckled.

Now, a note to parents traveling with their little ones – a little bit of careful planning goes a long way when traveling with kids. I am quite OCD when it comes to lists, but the “Be Prepared” mantra does add to one’s relaxation when you know you can meet most eventualities head-on and with a confident smile.

For example, when traveling with a toddler in the car you must have the following:

  • Snacks for the car (dry snacks like biltong, popcorn) I learnt the hard way that yoghurt can and will be thrown at an unsuspecting mom – hence dry snacks that can be passed back with little fuss and mess
  • Audiobooks can be downloaded for your kids and make for a great distraction
  • Small, inexpensive new toys that can be held in their little hands and keep them occupied
  • An active imagination for playing “I spy” games

There are a number of lists available online for what to pack when traveling with kids and I always find it hard to follow others’ lists as we all have our preferences. What I do find is that one needs to prepare a list a few days before the crazy packing instead of just throwing everything into a bag at the last minute. There are some things which you might not be able to find at a 24 hour garage stop at 3 in the morning, like colic drops or kiddies cough syrup and then you’ll thank your lucky stars for your forward-thinking.

Giveaway time and Mothers’ May continues … Congratulations to Sarah (she has been e-mailed) who won our Medela Breastpump worth over R5600. Thanks so much for all your comments and for sharing your trials and triumphs with the Modern Mommy community.

One of you will stand a chance of winning a two night stay for up to 4 people at the incredible Le Paradis apartments in Hermanus where we stayed. This prize is only for the actual accomodation and does not include transport to the venue or any meals. Terms and conditions apply and the lucky winner will be made familiar with these on presentation of the voucher. I am a teacher to 32 beautiful kids!! But at the end of a term I feel I need a getaway after having to wipe up buckets of tears, treat endless boo boos and wipe away rivers of snot. Yes I said snot, the word does not affect me anymore. Actually I’ve become quiet immune to it. I love my 32 babies, but after 103 school days so far (yes I have counted) I am in desperate need of a beautiful holiday.

I’m a mother of 2 boys and I’m married to a husband who’s committed to our marriage. It’s always been a dream for us to go on a road trip and create beautiful memories. We cannot afford to go on a trip because we’re still building a home for our children. I’d love to see what I’ve read about in this article.

    Hi Jo-Ann!
We deserve the break because life as we know it will change forever as we welcome our first baby into the world. Mom and dad are desperate for a babymoon- especially taking into consideration our hectic work schedules. Just to romance the stone a bit, and just be with each other before we are no longer just two. I would really appreciate this.

I just completed my resolutions for 2016 when my best friend’s daughter died at age 30. In between trying to push new resolutions and mourning her loss, my sister frantically called saying her husband is lying on the floor. It took more then 10 minutes to actually realise that she is trying to tell me he just died. Age 47, no illness, no signs… just gone, a massive heart attack. Did anyone say resolutions? A break away with these amazing women will be such an epic opportunity.

This year has been the toughest year of all times for me and my family and while I’m planning for my hubby’s 35th birthday I definitely think the Hermanus Le Paradis apartment that boasts incredible views will definitely be the best gift for my hubby since he loves the ocean and my boys will enjoy the getaway as well since they love the outdoors.

    Hi Jo-Anne

I would really to win this competition for me and my partner because he just passed his CA board one exam. So this gateway would be a nice break from all the studying and working at the same time. One travelling tip that I can share is to always have a mini medical supplies starter pack with you eg pain killers, stomach ache pills, plasters and some ointments because emergencies do occur sometimes while you’re away.

    Hi Jo-Ann,

My partner and I are just starting to plan our big day and this would be the perfect getaway to take some time out and think about what we both want.and finally reach a consensus. It’s been a long road for both of us as individuals facing physical and/or mental health challenges and then also as a couple having to blend a family into one unit. This vacation would be so useful in cementing our new family unit and planning our happily ever after.

Thank you for sharing your life experiences.

My cousin and I recently got married to our respective hubbies a few months apart of each other. And we both DIYd our wedding celebrations! Crazy nights, mornings filled with anxiety and last minute tears which weren’t of cold feet but more of “Oh my gosh I’m so glad and relieved we finally got here!” whilst standing at our respective altars about to say “I do”. Honeymoon phase is great, amidst the usual challenges and hiccups and we’d love a weekend away with our beaus to just catch up and switch off – and remember that after all is said and done, crazy domesticity and manic work days aside – we have the best life partners that we prayed for and were blessed with.

We need to rekindle as a family as our lives are so unbelievably busy; I seldom have more than 5 minutes to spend with my 2-year-old daughter before she goes to bed at night and hubby is studying at the moment. By the time I get in bed he is still working.
We haven’t been away as a family since our little girl was born as it hasn’t been affordable and time hasn’t really been on our side, so I feel we deserve this – just so we can spend some quality time together and take our little girl out to the beautiful Hermanus and outdoors which she adores!

It would be great to take my parents on this four day break to Hermanus Le Paradis. They have been so supportive my entire life, unselfishly have they gone out of their way to give me the best according to their abilities. I was not the easiest of teenager or young adult and never ever have they reminded me of the things I did which hurt them. They love Hermanus and I would be ever so happy if this is meant for us xxx

Such a lovely read! Our family is in need of a getaway! My little girl is now 13 months old. It has been such a treat to watch her grow & develop BUT we have not had any family getaways or any time to get away since her birth. I have been hoping to get away with the family for so long, but the finances have just not allowed it. We are currently saving for a deposit on a house to buy (big step) & we have been saving every LAST PENNY. Naturally, we haven’t been able to spoil ourselves for quite a while. It has been a long road – NOT an easy one :(. It would be such a treat to just get away for one weekend, forget about all the troubles & just RELAX as a FAMILY, which is ultimately the most important thing in life. It keeps us grounded in life. Here is to hoping. Fingers crossed 🙂

“Be Prepared ” Life throws many things at us ,sometimes amidst all the blessings there comes an eye opening experience “A LESSON” – ” Others are not always responsible for our own happiness….. u need to value yourself enough to know when you need to see the blessing in a painful situation”
After 17 years ( 2 beautiful kids , daughter 16 son 11) My marriage is in the process of being dissolved. The thought of being a single mom at 43 is scary but you know what …. hundreds of women go thru it and they survive. Yes there will be hard times ahead but I will smile cos my kids deserve to be happy and to succeed in life. A mini get away would be a great healing and restoration to my little family.

I would love to say that no one deserves this holiday more than me but how dare I actually. Life is challenging for all of us and no matter how hard or simple it is we all need a break and some time to just enjoy it. I have a beautiful 2 month old son who my husband and I have prayed for since we got married but unfortunately when I found out I was pregnant my husband felt the timing wasn’t right, he had other plans and goals that he needed to see to first. He then resented me for being pregnant. December last year I got served divorce papers. Yes that right. Over the festive period with two older daughters and 5 months pregnant I got served divorce papers.
I then refused to sign it or even think about it. I had a precious life growing inside of me that was my first priority and being emotionally upset was not an option for me. I had girls I had to look after and get Christmas ready. I had to be up and cheerful for their sake. I would not let them ever look back at Christmas and feel sad. I was basically a single parent over night. Days felt longer than ever before and as soon as my girls were sound asleep I allowed myself to break down and then the guilt would over take me that my son was now suffering from my excessive crying. The hormones didn’t help at all. My husband just started living as if he was single. I couldn’t wrap my head around when things went wrong, why he works hard at everything he does but is just quitting on us, is here someone else etc etc.
I asked him to respect the life I was carrying and we could continue with divorce proceedings after our son was born. He of course thought I was trying to stall. So it’s nearly three months later and I’m waiting for the end of our fairy tale love story to end. My heart is still deeply broken. I have moments that I wish to be held and appreciated for how strong I have to be for my children. I wish I just had someone cook dinner or wake up to run a wind but when I look at my gorgeous gifts from God I know that all the tears I have been silently sowing I will someday reap it in joy.
My son I names James simply because I learnt to love the book of James while passing through this terrible storm. My favorite verse in there is for all my children. “Every good and perfect gift is from above”
This has just been a very very short story about the past few months of my life. It has been extremely hard and only through Gods grace have I been strong enough to endure it and still smile. I still appreciate life and what it has to offer. I know this is not the end of my story. There is still a lot instore for me.
Do I feel I need to win this giveaway? Yes absolutely but so does every other hard working sleep deprived mom out there.

    Good luck everyone.

It’s been the most challenging and long past two years for and my family. I’ve had to go two back surgeries in a space of 12 months which meant no holidays for us last winter and summer, with the most incredible husband who never left my sight I know that he deserves a break and for the kids too. My family and I have never been on a well deserved family holiday, having a nine year old and 15 month old with the hussle and bussle of work, part -time studying, school and the kids needing extra medical attention. We never really have a financial break to take that family vay-cay. Life is so busy we never really take time to just breathe and enjoy each other, winning this holiday would give us that opportunity to bond as a family.

I think hubby myself and our little 11 month old deserves this break as life is so busy and weekenda just goes so quick with washing and house chores that we do not get to spend enough time with our angel Isabella. I miss her everyday when im at work and would love some time away with her and our main man 🙂 I love lists and do mine in pencil while packing in order for me to rub out if ive inserted the needed item in our luggage. Lots of snacks and water is a must for travelling with a toddler and definitely new things to entertain them. Thank you and enjoy your kiddos 🙂

I love your page…. I think being a single mother is a path that is not the easiest to walk. Being mom and dad in one does mean, double the tears, double the stress but also double the hugs and double the kisses and double the love. It is an emotional roller coaster you are on, but when you have a good support base of your mom and your family…. the journey becomes less bumpy and more joyful. My daughter and I have some much girly time, so much fun times and so much talks that I would like to maintain our relationship until she is a grown woman one day. We lave nature and Hermanus is the epitome of perfection for a winters getaway and it being Mothers May, Granny would have to come along and enjoy this beautiful country we call home xxx

After 5 years of being in remission, it was recently discovered that my cancer had returned, affecting most of my bones this time. This news has really affected my family, especially my husband, given everything we’d gone through with my initial diagnosis. We have 2 young children (8years and 1 years old) who are my life and the reason I’m fighting so hard to beat this again!
I would really just love to get away with my family, to have a break from hospitals and medical aids and bills and cancer, to have a day or 2 of ‘normalcy’ again. My husband has been so amazing, taking care of the house and kids while allowing me to rest and recover from treatments, I know he would really appreciate the breakaway. Thank you.

I had a peek at a few reasons why people need a reason for a break and realized that everyone seems like they need it more than the next person. I think as a mom as much as you need a break or me time to yourself, the moment you tend to have that time you realize how much you would actually want to spend it with your family instead, because life gets hectic, schedules get filled so easily and often we don’t even have time for our family after work, we get stuck in the rat race and we forget what it is like to break away from life and simply spend time together, be in one room without the distractions of life or technology.

My reason is simple.. I want to run wild on the grass with my boys, I want us to play games, bend a few rules and for one weekend just live in a bubble where only the 4 of us exist. A few years from now we will look back at our weekend away, remember the funny moments, laugh at the pictures and hopefully share them with the grandkids.

    Wow, where do I start?
We were planning for a second baby and last year June, a positive pregnancy test confirmed it. I had suffered with hyperemesis the during my first pregnancy, so I kind of expected it the second time. With my gynae on holiday during the June holidays, I made an appointment on his return in July. Feeling sick all day, I made an appointment with my GP. When I was about 9 weeks pregnant I was admitted to hospital with hyperemesis and put on a drip (mom went with me as hubby was at work). The gynae standing in for mine then did a sonar scan and discovered I was pregnant with twins. I was shocked at first as I thought we had planned for one due to finances. I then dismissed that and was so happy I was being blessed with 2 babies. The gynae then only found one hearbeat, and another scan confirmed that I had lost the other foetus 2 days prior. I was so emotional, but me throwing up the entire day did not even give me a chance to grieve. The next few weeks of my pregnancy was draining as I also had a 3 year old girl who was craving my attention.
At 22 weeks the nausea went away and I could finally enjoy my pregnancy. The 4th Feb I gave birth (baby was due Valentine’s Day) to a beautiful baby boy. The 8th Feb I took my mom for her annual mammogram (she was supposed to go in June but she felt a lump in her right breast). The mammogram confirmed the lumps and she was sent for further tests. On the 16th Feb she was disgnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer. We we so emotional due to losing my dad to cancer 9 years ago. On the 20th Feb my husband took my brother home, and on his way back he was involved in a car accident. He fractured his arm and wrote off our car (our only means of transport). After he was taken away by the ambulance, I was forced to express (one should only express at 6 weeks to establish milk supply). After 35ml I left him with my mom and had to ask someone to take me to hospital. With my husband recovering, my mom moving into her house and hospital visits, a toddler and a newborn it was hard without transport. We had to take public transport everywhere and be up with the kids early to take my daughter to school. I was not sleeping well and managed with about an hour of sleep a night. When we purchased a car the end of March it made our lives easier. I did not have to ask for a lift for for my mom to chemo and my daughter did not have to get up at 4am to take a taxi to school.
My life has become hectic since Feb as I did not have a break or a chance to even rest (gave birth 4 days into my maternity leave). I have to spend time with hubby, kids and be there for my mom everyday as the chemo is making her very ill. I start work 14th June and I am not looking forward to going back due to me being so tired. With the physical, emotional and financial stress I can only thank God that I am alive, my kids and hubby are healthy and that my mom is so positive taking everything one day at a time. I have so much to be grateful for, and this ordeal has helped me to be thankful that we have a vehicle in our time of need.

Apologies for the long post, but I would really like a break after my hectic maternity leave to spend time with my family and to give my mom a break after her first 3 months of chemo, before her next operation and second stage of chemo?

Hi Jo Anne. I am a modern mommy that thoroughly enjoys your articles. I especially like your views on breastfeeding as I breastfed and there wasn’t much encouragement when it came to asking questions etc. I am a mom to a lively 1 yr 3 month old boy and I love him to bits. I would absolutely love to win this weekend away as we currently stay in a flat and I haven’t been able to take him on a weekend away, I would love him to enjoy the grass, outdoors and just be free. Juggling work, housework , cooking and a bubbly baby boy can be challenging and a weekend away would be just what me and my partner need.

We deserve a break, because we bought a house last year and our previous owner refused to move for the past 5 months, so we have been living in one bedroom with our little Gem who turns two this Friday. The illegal occupant has cost us alot of legal fees and has drained us physically and emotionally.

This break will just take us away from our current reality and will be nice to celebrate our little girl’s 2nd Birthday.

I remember me getting all excited when seeing whales and my boss were””can one really get so excited for just seeing whales”‘and I were yes aren’t they beautiful to watch. No need to say that my little girl,Gia , loves the ocean for when we got a break I was sitting for hours on the balcony just admiring the beautiful sea views and the whales

    Hi

I have an almost 3year old and a 10 week old girl. Needless to say our lives are super busy juggling these two angels. When leaving the house I always see that I have a bag of snacks and my ipad on hand for my 3year old boy. My hubby and I would loveeee to be treated to a weekend away with our two little ones. We definitely need the breakaway as life gets hectic raising kids, keeping the home and marriage afloat. Everyone deserves a break away. God bless and warm regrds.

This sounds totally divine! I’d love to win this because work is crazy at the moment and I am so stressed and a get away with my daughter who is 1 and my husband would be heavenly! We have not been on a holiday since her birth and I think it would be a great opportunity for us do something different. She would absolutely love seeing the ocean and being able to play in the garden. We have yet to take a drive longer than 40minutes with her in the car so it will be a new experience and I’d have to put your tips to good use!

Dear Jo Anne, this will really be a well deserved holiday.I have a son who is 19months and im loving each an every development but it wasn’t so when he born as I suffered from PND for about 6months an up until today I still regret the moments that I missed with him for the first 6months of his life it has even went as far as affecting my milk supply. This has also played a big impact on my marriage but I thank the man above as he really came through for my family an we work through it day by day an became so much stronger. My hearts desire is to pamper my hubby as he does so much for us and through my PND he kept strong an stood by my side therefore I would love this opportunity

    Dear Jo,

Congrats on juggling 2 bambino’s. I have a 5 year old and a 2 year old and I know how hard it can be. Working 12 – 13 hours daily is not easy, the worst part is getting home at night and sometimes they are both asleep already. We have learned to cherish our weekends and off days with the kids and thus the need for this perfect getaway for all of us. PS: Did you know there is only 940 Saturdays from the day your kids are born until they leave for College/University….. make each moment count.

Firstly, really enjoyed the article, as it set my mind at ease a little regarding future travels with a new baby.
Reading all the replies actually made me think twice about leaving a reply in hope to win the holiday as there are so many others deserving of a really good break. My reason for wanting/needing the break is the fact that within the next two-three months our lives will change forever as we await the birth of our first born. From reading these blogs and some of the replies from all the moms out there it has really helped with some burning questions and issues whether it be the changes my body is going through or the intricacies of breast feeding. My husband and I are busy saving up and preparing for this big journey we are about to undertake with our bundle of joy and it would be the best gift to get some time away together before baby arrives. It might be our last chance at a holiday just the two of us. The pregnancy and life in general has taken its toll lately and a break away is exactly what is needed to put things into perspective sometimes and on top of that we just love Hermanus, 😀

Thank you for opportunity you have presented.

I will love to win this awesome price for my family and my mothers. My Husband travels a lot because of work and we always try to make up for lost time when ever he is home. Our baby girl is 1 year 2 months and i cant remember the last time we went on holiday since she arrived and there are so many firsts we will love to share with her.
On the trip I will also love to take my 2 mothers (Mom and my Mother in Love). they are both widows and i will love to share this holiday with them so that they can also bond with their grand daughter and this will also allow us (hubby and I) some us time. This will also be an extra mothers day present for them.
Memories created will be priceless and will be shared with the people who mean the world to me.

Wow this is going to be a difficult task for you, choosing one winner! I’m sure we are all deserving of such a holiday.
I have a little family of 4 and we have never been on a holiday together, My eldest is almost 6. I would really like to spoil my family with a holiday at this beautiful venue.

For travelling tips: I like to pack the same snacks I pack for school that does not have to be refrigerated. The snacks are familiar to them so they don’t waste it. I put there juice in a easy to close water bottle. I always have wet wipes on hand and I keep a portable toilet in the boot, try the http://potette.com/ that works with small carrier bags. If possible leave just before nap time, that way they will get in a possible 2 hour nap. I also save movies on the iPad. Good luck everyone!

This will be a blessing in our lives. Our family has hardly spent any quality time together ( two of us are teachers and constantly under the stress of having to work or do extra mural activities). My dad is also extremely busy with work. That prize would be ideal because we have an amazing reason to pack away our work and stressors and go visit a beautiful town and just relax for the weekend. This prize would be heaven sent!

Enter Your Comment…Hi there; well I guess I’m not deserving of it but rather in need of it. I’m a mother of 3 kids; a boy and 2 twin girls which I gave birth to the 1st of April 2016. They were premature babies. I have spent the last month and a half in hospital up and down every day with no rest since I was discharged from hospital. I had a ceaser and had to push my body every day to keep up the pace and be strong for them. It’s been a hectic time for me to the last when the one got an infection just as they were about to come home so that was traumatic in itself too. I had to deal with the emotional side of it too. I prayed hard. Finally they came home last week and it’s been tough. I get no sleep. It’s 2 I have to juggle and I can hardly keep my eyes open. Then I still have to do the other normal things around the house; prepare food so there’s no rest for me. I’m so tired I tell you. It’s been a long road in my pregnancy….the reasons for fetching them early. The struggle to get thew weight up in hospital while in the incubator. I don’t know how I’ve coped so far but I’m feeling it. The financial pressure of providing for 2 babies it’s all stress I have to deal with. Well if you think I’m a candidate to win then I’d appreciate it.

Whats even more special is having a little one. Im obsessed!!! Im a newbie mom and it has been life changing. I cant even explain.
I am the only 1 working between my husband & I so a holiday is probably the last thing on our list due to finances. I wish to take my little girl away, a trip to Hermanus would be so comforting. Wow, I cannot imagine a better oasis than these luxurious apartments with the breathtaking ocean views to recoup and rewind and reconnect with my family. Having recently given birth to our second child who is almost 3 weeks old it has been a whirlwind of sleepless nights leading to rushed mornings (more so for my husband than more me) getting our 5-year-old ready and to school on time all while he is preparing for his honours exam in Psychology. This will be a great gift to us as it takes a while to adjust to life with a new family member no matter how prepared you think you think you are…
Travel tip – make sure you avoid rush hour whether travelling by car or flying and remember children like having their own stuff specially at bedtime when in an unfamiliar environment.

They totally deserve a break-away because they are the most awesome parents and simply because I just can’t recall them ever taking time out (as in a vacation/ weekend-away/ holiday)… Visiting family over the festive season does not count (and they’ve done that countless times ?). Supporting our dreams and helping us realize our goals all while maintaining a loving relationship and setting a fine example for us. Since life gets crazy and work and varsity takes up the bulk of our time, we would really appreciate to have some time out together. Moms been through a rough patch changing jobs, dad’s recovered from an operation and my sister has been working so hard to achieve her goals at varsity, so the break will be much appreciated. Hi, my family and I would appreciate a little break. We had a weekend getaway in last year just before leaving to find that we pregnant after 5years having a miscarraige at almost 6months. We have a daughter of 7years and now our baby girl almost turning 6months. After my pregnancy, being monitored closely we could hardly be out. My 4months maternity past without taking my leave as needed to get auditing done, working already overtime at work and home as husband is working in retail with mall hours… Just seems like not enough hours in a day. A break away from work and home will be much appreciated. Thanks!!!!

    Hi Jo-Ann,

I am quite sure that every Mother deserves this trip one way or another, but here’s why I believe that my family and I are deserving.

I am a young mother to a 15 month old girl. I am lucky enough to be married to her father who is also quite young. We work really hard to try and provide the basic needs within the household. Her father is often working at night and we really don’t have any other financial assistance outside of the two of us. Any money that is left over at the end of the month is for our little Reagile eg: extra nappies, milk etc.

We have never had a chance to go away due to financial constraints. Infact there is a lot we havnt been able to do. We havnt had a proper wedding as yet either. All we could afford was lobola as it is compulsory in our culture in order for us to be one.

Being a young Mother and Wife is possibly the biggest challenge. So many day-to-day obstacles that one just has to overcome. This is the tome where I should focus on my dreams and dig deeper into knowing myself. But often I have to out my husband and daughter first.

With that said I have no regrets. I love my family and would go through it all over again just to see the smile on both their faces.

The last time I was at the coast was about a decade ago and I could say the same for my husband. Faded memories indeed. There would be no greater gift that I could think of right now than to get some time out with my family.

Thank you for being such an inspiration ❤

Hubby and myself are both shift workers and parents of a teen and toddler. It becomes really tough to balance work and family life with our hectic schedules, so when we actually do get the chance to spend quality time together as a family, we try to make it as memorable as possible. We really could do with a break away since we both had to work over the festive season as well as Easter.

I am pregnant expecting my second child and few days ago I nearly lost my precious unborn baby I started getting cramps, bleeding and I rushed to the doctor and told me my bladder is getting smaller which is normal but I have a high infection that’s caused by germs and if it doesn’t get treated very fast than il lose my baby. This was most scaring moment of my life I was about to face my worst nightmare but fortunate enough with the medication they prescribed for me the infection was going away, So getting this getaway will really help me and my family ease our minds. We are also both full time teachers and with such a demanding 24/7 job we have been struggling to take time out to relax and just spend time together as a family and as a couple. Our little baba has also just recovered from a nasty bout of bronchiolitis. It has been a roller-coaster. We definitely could do with two night away in this incredibly gorgeous and peaceful place. Our road travelled has not been easy. With one miscarriage at 3 months (Dec 2014), many tests, doctor visits, pray and patience for over a year – and just when I found myself defeated with emotions – I fell pregnant. Incredibly joyful and scary moment at the time. Fears overcome you, but pray and family pulled me through. I am a mother to a beautiful girl aged 7 and am now expecting our first baby boy, due October 2016. Today I am 22 weeks and loving this little boy so much each day. And boy is he busy! Constantly moving and making sure mommy knows he’s doing OK! My daughter has been asking for a family vacation for months now. She has had to see me go through the motions of the miscarriage, the trials of trying to get pregnant and the terrible morning sickness which lasted 4 months with her little brother-to-be. My brave little girl holding my hair back over the toilet as I puke my guts out throughout the evenings and the smile she has on her face when she gives me some of her cereal in the mornings – she was my pillar of strength. She held my hand every night as she slept beside me. Worried about her mommy, she made sure I was comfortable with enough pillows around me that kept me nice and warm. She would make sure that by bedtime my “vomit bucket” was by side and held a cold-pack on my forehead to help ease the headaches. I would love to take her and my partner on a holiday. The 3 of us are the best of friends. My partner (of 4 years and not her biological father) takes care of her when I am ill and he loves her unconditionally, as his own. This road trip would mean the world to them. She loves exploring and is fascinated by the ocean. No matter the temperature, she will run into the waters lol. Now that I feel much better (emotionally and physically), I am able to be a healthy mommy and partner to the both of them. I have missed them so much, just as much as they have missed me being me. Our road travelled has not been easy, but our journey together is filled with love and happiness. This road trip to Hermanus is just what we need to unwind, have some fun, enjoy each other, breathe, take it all in and be together.

    Hi Jo-Ann,

Who wouldn’t want a break away from the rat-race we live daily. I’m a mother to an almost 3 year old little boy and a 12 year old stepdaughter. We have very little family time with my husband studying part-time, my stepdaughter coming every other weekend and me trying to balance the working mom life. There are rare moments when we get to just chill at home as a family, but a break away with no disturbances or distractions would be a welcome treat. I get to have my little bit of me time when I go to my dance class, but have since stopped classes because we don’t get to spend much time together. If I were to be the lucky winner it would be like Christmas in July for the family. If not the lucky winner, I wish the winner and their family a safe and happy family time. It’s the one thing we can’t buy and that’s time with family.

    Hugs, wishes and kisses

We need a break away. My house is driving me insane and I feel like I’ve lost my battle to the the 3 year old twin boys (who act like drunken pirates most times) that have completely taken it siege. My eledest boy, now 12 years old, was such false advertising for children. Clearly I was not ready for the challenge of multiples but hey now, what can a modern mom do but breathe and use her handvac.

I became a first time mommy on the 11th April to a beautiful baby girl and never knew my heart could be filled with so much love. Its been a rough 11 weeks though. My recurperation toon longer and baby was admitted into hospital for neontal jaundice a week after she was born. At times it all became too much but all i needed was to look at my angel’s face to know i would do it all over again and again and again. It would be amazing to get away from home to beautiful fresh air filled with stress free air. Hubby and I havent been away since before i was pregnant & time away to refresh and boost ourselves sounds amazing:)
