Online shopping has become my new best friend

Online shopping has become my new best friend. In fact, anything that promises to save me time has been added to my BFF list, as time has become my ultimate luxury over the past few weeks. As a new mom, you sarcastically wonder what people with no children actually mean when they say “they’re busy.” I must admit, a few months ago, I would berate my mommy friends for always missing calls, being an hour late for dinner or never replying to messages, but now, I’ve become the justifiably “flaky friend”. Yes, times have changed and my notion of time management has taken a quantum leap.

Love sam home page
Enter my hero on a white horse โ€“ online shopping. How many of you have tried to do grocery shopping with a baby who decides to save the cute coos and adorable gurgles for at home and the screaming tantrums for the local grocer? The kind but sympathetic looks from strangers as my 2.5 month old demonstrated his incredible lung capacity eventually lured me to the home page of many online shopping meccas. Groceries, baby dรฉcor, clothing (even mom deserves a new little something to brighten her day on occasion) and baby necessities meant that I no longer had to pack baby in the car, pray for a quiet drive, search for parking, and attempt a trolley push with baby attached as often.

Spree home page Kids Living home page
My list is by no means exhaustive, but I thought I’d share where I’m doing most of my shopping:
(Clothing for baby and mommy and lots of beauty products to make mom feel human ๐Ÿ˜‰
(Cutest baby clothing)
(All my favourite things from from aden + anais)
(My go to place for prams, car seats and dรฉcor!)
(The groceries and baby clothing and for stocking up on essentials like nappies)
(From mattress covers to laundry baskets for baby’s room)
(Cute and inexpensive baby clothes)
( lots of fab baby essentials and items you’ll love)
(many adorable outfits, including the Converse booties I’m giving away)
(clever little gadgets and items for baby)
(everything!!!)
(also everything!!)

Also, doing one’s baby gift registry online is a great idea and saves all your guests lots of guesswork and time too. I must be honest, before having a baby, shopping for a baby shower was quite a hit and miss game, but online registries gave me great guidance.
Also, if you want to save some money on the big items, I found that you can actually rent items (like car seats, camp cots, baby monitors, etc.) on .
And, to take the guesswork out of buying toys and the educational value thereof, I enjoyed the approach of – every two months you receive educational toys that are age appropriate for your baby and also a team of experts at hand to guide you through the developmental milestones.

    Hi Jo-Ann

I am expecting my first baby in September, so I don’t have much to share on motherhood. Reading your blog has given me a lot of hope and motivation for the journey that lies ahead for me. I too will be a modern, working mommy and the thought had been quite daunting, but seeing you do it has given me hope that it you can be a good mother and have time for family & friends and be good at your job. Yes, my life will never be the same as before but it will be better than before (with a lot of changes). I am ready for the challenge thanks to your inspirational blog.

I agree that online shopping for the little ones is the way to go especially with no time on your hands. I have twins and have found that shopping online saves time and allows me to spend time with my little ones at home without a need to go to the mall. My favourite site is , they made funky kids labels and you can label just about anything for your little one. Also very useful for pre-school/daycare stuff.

    Welcome to motherhood Jo-Ann!!

Being a new mother definitely has had some new challenges for me. My baby girl just turned one month old yesterday and yes I never knew I could love her this much. However trying to juggle studying my final year for my degree and being a mom and wife is no easy task. I also understand your friendship stories as I am now in a sense the odd one out in being the first amongst my friends to get married and have a baby at the age of 20. Thanks for all your tips and advice to show that we are all in the same boat ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m a soon to be mommy and I’m already loving shopping online as going to the mall is just too tiring and frustrating for me. Especially when the malls are full and I’m getting hot because of hormones. My favourite is takealot and mrprice home. I can only imagine how hectic it’s going to be once baby is here. Thank you for all the advice and tips. It really does help not only to know I’m not alone but advice to help make things easier.

Motherhood is a 24/7, 365 job that you dont get paid for,you cannot resign when you are unhappy,or found greener pastures( new cool kid around) you just mould them to be the best child you want….. There is no manual/ book for raising kids, its an automatic thing that just flows and your child will be a replica of what / who you are… Being a hands on mom and conversing with your child, involving them more on activities, making their opinions matter would make u bring up the best child ever.. A child is a blessing and should be celebrated everyday whether single mom, or have a partner, make your home child friendly, because some accidents can be avoided by tidying the house everytime to prevent accidents that could have been avoided…A child is a precious jewel that you can ever wear…

I am so grateful for your site and the tips. Online shopping is such a convenience especially now that im pregnant & waddling. Walking in a mall has become a strenuous exercise for me. Im having my little blessing, my boy, in August! He will be named after his grandfather, James, in honour of such a wonderful man who passed away in April. It is sad that he will not see his first grandson, but we know he’ll be our sob’s guardian angel.

As a guy, all the various items and name brands can be quite intimidating, especially when each brand claims to be ‘the best’.
I personally found shopping online at kalahari.com seem to be the easiest and most comfortable shopping experience for me. Imagine sitting t work, clicking on a few items which i cMe to believe that we MUST have, and wifey being pleasantly surprised at home with a special delivery at the door ever so often. This way i can stay involved yet dont need to to visit those big and intimidating baby stores.

My sister and her husband are expecting their 1st baby this month, due 20th June. They moved to Grahamstown in January last year and has become a firm believer in online shopping as there are not too many shops in town, unless they have a day on the weekend to spend in Port Elizabeth.
Her favorite has become Spree, Woolies and Mr P. and for baby definitely Spree.
Being so far away from all the family, she is really nervous about giving birth but we trust that everything will be fine for her and baby.

Being a mother is the best joy for me. My son just turned a year old on 1 June 2014. He keeps me on my toes all the time but I don’t mind. I found online shopping much more convinient as with my baby he seems to cry for everything he kind of see and I spend buying things for him that’s not needed. With online shopping I can view what I really need and its much more convinient especially when I have a crying baby while standing in a long line to pay.

Motherhood has felt like an awakening and a call to action. Inherent to the idea of the maternal, I think, is the desire for fairness, equity, justice, and opportunities for our children; for me, this has translated from the particular to the general, from my own family situation to activist work on a larger scale
Motherhood is being sick in bed with a stomach virus, and making it outside to meet the school bus anyway.
Motherhood is a beautiful mess of contradictions and juxtapositions: it can make you feel both broken, and mended; free yet bound; it is bitter, and almost unbearably sweet.
Motherhood is a living expression of hope for our future world. FACT!!!

Our aim is to keep the gender a surprise, its hard but I feel it increases the excitement. I’m no stranger to online shopping, gone are the days driving between stores to find what you like or what. Between full time PhD and home life, weekends are meant for relaxing, and shopping from the comfort of my bed definitely tops my list.

I love online shopping too! I hate standing in long queues, esp with newborn. I can only imagine how traumatising it must be for my Lil one. My favorites are Mr Price and MR Price home! I’m a 2nd time mum to another adorable son ๐Ÿ™‚ he is almost 3weeks old, but is ruling our household, lol. His big brother(almost 4yrs old) is very protective, keeps asking when is baby going to grow as tall aS him. I love being a mother, can never get tired of baby holding tight to my clothing, the smell of baby products, and the smiles (that apparently are caused by winds/burps,lol). Its not a myth that every pregnancy different, lol, can’t remember our 1st born keeping us up this much. And what worked for our 1st born, isn’t working for our newborn ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m expecting my 2nd born around September, I know a lot about motherhood since my 1st born is turning 10 in November. It’s a blessing to be a mom, it comes with a lot of responsibilities, plus now times are hard. One need to be careful around where to get things for less. I enjoy shopping at Takealot, WoolWorths and Groupon, I normally but when there’s a special.

I am smiling at your snarky comments of becoming a flaky friend since baby arrived. Yep, it’s a whole difference ball game when the shoe is on the other foot. You are forgiven for avoiding long q’s and trolley dashes as times have changed.

I remember my time with my babies was the most treasured..ever! But hey, when I went shopping its a whole different ball game. Packing all the essentials…and more. And that nagging thought that I must’ve forgotten something…only to realize that I didn’t need half the stuff that I packed, with a view that there may be an emergency. An then there’s the dreaded whaling when they demand attention…but somehow we forget that that was the sound that brought relief when we gave birth…”aaahhhh! thank God for a healthy baby, and especially one that is born alive.”

I remember that feeling when the doctor told me 8 months prior that I miscarried…”99.9% sure that I’m no longer pregnant ๐Ÿ™ ….And there she was, born bridge, determined to come into this world feet first! And believe me she’s proven to be a force to be reckoned with. I treasure all the long nights, days & nights in hospital, rushing her in and out because she is a bit chesty.

Don’t worry Jo, soon trips to the store will be a breeze and these initial trying times, a thing of the past. It’ll get better and you’ll laugh at how you berated yourself during challenging times when baby is just being…well…a baby.

On line shopping is an absolute blessing I concur! You can do it at leisure, in the comfort of your own home, and bed , as it is now. Lol! Nobody watching, rushing you or feeling like you are doing the groot trek, all packed up like a camel.

@spree on line shopping is an ultimate go to place for trendy fashion. I love how the world has changed and the modern day of not having to get stuck in a crowd.

Needless to say, you will find that baby gets everything that mommy’s heart desires ๐Ÿ™‚ and who wouldn’t want a pair of those very hip Nikes? Hello!

Hope it’s all in a days work for you going forward and that you pat yourself on the Back at least 5 times a day when you get things right, cause you deserve at least 10 stars for surviving the first 2.5 months.

Strongs to you, MODERNMOMMY, and keep on inspiring people with that beauty that shines inside and out.

    Love

I have never thought I could love someone so unconditionally. Yes you love your husband, but the love and bond you have with your child is indescribable. I have a 1year 9 month old son and am 18 weeks pregnant with my second son (18weeks tomorrow). My son is my absolute everything. I am a full time working mom and the first day I went back to work I cried and sat with a huge lump in my throat. What made it all better was the look of pure delight and the biggest smile ever from my baby when I picked him up. I do still get those sad feelings, even worse now with the emotions of pregnancy. I prepared myself so much for pregnancy and birth, having a very easy pregnancy and natural, very easy birth, that once my baby was born it was such an adjustment that nobody can describe. I was so overwhelmed for those first few months and i look at my son now and wonder where all the time went. Motherhood for me is the hardest job, but the absolutely most rewarding. Helping to shape your child and teach them as much as you can. There little successes are your successes. The things they do and say are so funny and makes you aware of how quickly they absorb things. As a mother I am so in awe of my child and the amount of love he gives as well, makes me feel loke I am doing something right. And the best thing about motherhood, the cuddles, the hugs, the kisses and the I love you from that little person. Best job ever. I wish every woman can experience it.

I’m a first time mom to an extremely beautiful son. Motherhood has’nt been easy, but it just changes one life for the better. Not everything is about me anymore, but about the life that I have brought into this world. It’s an extremely special feeling to be a mother, teaches one so much about responsibility, love and your faith is tested at the same time. When it comes to shopping I prefer Woolworths, whether it may be online or even going to the shops. I make it a point to dress my baby for comfortability and warmth this winter. Deciding on what to buy is tricky at times, but with the advice I get from reading baby magazines and getting advice tips from people who know more about babies helps alot. Those winter booties would be befitting fo my son, because I like style and they would be so cute on him. Would really be a pleasure to win them. I like them so much ๐Ÿ™‚

    Hello mommies out there โ™ก

I have birth to my beautiful bundle of joy on the 24th April 2014. I am a first time mommy and I am enjoying every moment, including the night shift for he’s feds. I believe that’s our special bonding time where we stare at one another while drifting off to dreamland. He’s name is Carter and he went for he’s 6weeks injection yesterday and he was such a brave boy. My little hulk! I would definitely appreciate those converse booties in this cold weather to keep him warm, while healing. He’s too precious and I hate to see him suffer. I know those booties will be the perfect fit for my little angel. I do not shop online due to me not owning a credit card and especially with the fraud happening in today’s generation. I live in Port Elizabeth and as most know, we are not up to date with the latest kids fashion by being able to walk into a shop and purchasing them. It’s always Cape Town and Johannesburg. I will be forever grateful to you if you select me as the winner. Being a #ModernMommy is definitely the way to go and bring up your kid.

Take Care and I hope you keeping warmโ™ก

Having spent 9 years in the UK online shopping was second nature. The Sainsburys van pulling into our driveway on a Friday afternoon was one of my highlights of the week. It was a big adjustment coming back to SA 4 years ago to find it had still not taken off here. Anything that saves time and a person’s sanity can only be a good thing. I had my first baby 4 months ago. Being a fashion lover and shopaholic and NEEDING to shop every two days, i was very impressed with myself, having planned my shoping trips with my boy before he arrived. I soon realised that 1. Planning doesnt exist anymore. 2. Neither does clean clothes. 3. Nor does patience!
After a few atempts of strolling in the mall, i realised that I am now that woman that I used to stare at before I had my baby.
The one who looks like she popped out of the washing machine, and bacame best friends with a headband and clip. The one with the wet mark on her chest, looking bewildered and dazed at the same time. And after a combination of screams, vomit and stares, i developed a new appreciation for moms.
I still shop every other day, but now while i shop with my pjs on and unstyled hair, the only stare i get is from my husband, as i have the energy to sit in bed with the laptop at 3 in the morning while he is trying to put our boy to sleep.
My new craze is ebay where one can find decent cheap clothes, gadets and toys. I also received wonderful service from sportsbaby.com. Locally, woolworths and Mr Price never disappoints as well. ย
it is very comforting to know that I am not a lone in this!

Firstly motherhood is the best thing ever. Though it changes your your whole routine, it also matures your personality instantly. I am a mother of 3 beautiful angels, whom I would never exchange for anything in the world. My last born is the most gorgeous princess ever, when I had to leave her to come back to work, it was the worst day of my life, I practically wanted to cry, as I was still breastfeeding. I enjoy my Woolies on line shopping and , they are the best.
A big Thank you, to you for setting up this website for us mom’s to communicate.

    Hi

Im currently expecting my 1st child, im so excited. Im doing my second sonar sometime this month to find out if its a girl or boy. At first I thought its a boy but at times when I speak about the little one I find myself saying she is, she’s doing this and that lol. Im starting to toss n turn at night because she’s growing bigger everyday, and I’d speak to her and ask her if I can sleep and In the morning will take a warm nice bath before we off to work. I cant wait to meet the little, cant wait to learn and what im most excited about is we both going to be growing in different ways,we going to laughing, crying, shouting, screaming, play, sleepless nights, visits and gifts. SUPER EXCITED.

    Hi Jo.
This is such an awesome site. I’m about to become a new mommy and your blog has offered so much inspiration. I must admit there is a huge amount of information available on the internet, but following your blog had helped to navigate it with a great deal of ease. Shopping online in my pj’s while hubby makes breakfast helps with the overwhelming feeling of first time parents. We can view and discuss in the comfort of our own home without being bombarded with inexperienced sales clerks at baby stores. Also we can decide on what’s right for us and our budget before impulse buying instore.

my journey to motherhood: Being a mother is something you do under any and all circumstances, whether youโ€™re happy or sad, you donโ€™t just toss it out the window because youโ€™re having a bad day
Being a mother defines me but it does not limit me
I am a mother but I am also much more
    I canโ€™t fix everything nor should I
I want to take away my childrenโ€™s pain but it is far better to sit through it with them to teach them how to feel it
I will teach my children more from my imperfections than from my perfections
If it feels good then it must be good!
Being firmly grounded in myself, feet on the ground, helps me to open my heart more fully. Mothering grounds me.
My children are best left with their brilliance rather than with mine.

I’m on my third trimester with my first child and one thing that hasn’t left me alone not even for a day is morning sickness which makes it close to impossible to run my daily errands of going into any shop..

I do my groceries on the woolworths website and KidsLiving page is on my favorites pages and most visited.. Pram and car seat I have just recently bought on their website. Spree is my favorite for maternity wear especially those hard to find special occasion wear for my tummy. I actually don’t know how I would have survived going to shops daily with the morning sickness that has been my BFF since 10weeks of pregnancy.. Thank you for mentioning the other websites shock are already proving to be helpful.. ๐Ÿ™‚

But online shopping is the better option. If you decide to take baby out, pop in at BAby Boom. I used to love taking baby there because they put toys on display and the staff is nice enough to allow baby to play with the toys, like the baby gym, so hubby would my little girl busy there while i gather her goodies. But welcome to mommy world. My little darling daughter is now 11 months old and is my bundle of joy! Enjoy being a Mom, its the best thing in the world! Take Care of your precious little one!

I absolutely love reading your blog! I have a 9week boy and I completely understand what you going through. Before having a baby, shopping was my thing and now when I go out, it takes 2 – 3 hours to prepare before going to a mall, while I’m there I’m on a constant time check! I also resorted to online shopping especially for gifts and baby things. I have recently bought some blankies and toiletries from take a lot – they are super efficient and the products are well priced. I also bought on the baby sense website, they have a fab swaddle wrap and recently bought tickets tithe it workshop on Sept – you should def try and go.

I became a first time mom on the 2nd April 2014 to my beautiful little bundle Kezia. From the moment I knew I was preggies, I had all these plans in my head on what type of mother I wanted to be. Today my little angel is 2 months old and so far, the in control, know it all mother I planned to be took a backseat.

God knew exactly what He was doing when He made mothers…

With Kezia I have learnt so much patience, I learnt to trust my instincts and I have learnt to take each day ‘one at a time’ . Motherhood has been amazing these past couple of months. Yes, even throughthe sleepless nights, diaper changes and feeds… i have grown o love it . Watching her reach her dev elopmentall milestones is awesome. As Kezia grows in her development I grow as a mom.

I have a 9 week old girl our miracle baby. I have never given much thought to online shopping as I am very old school but will give it a try especially when it comes to baby shopping. Good day,

Being a protector of our 2 kiddos. The one is 4 years and 3 months and the other is 4 months and 3 weeks. And they are my everything I just read the blog regarding having extra help. I’m a very stubborn person (as hubby keeps pointing out lol). I love doing everything on my own. However I love having a 2 way conversation with another adult at the most of times. And let me tell you Magenta my 4 year old has her own imaginary friends and is a proper daddy’s girl. And Maia the 4 month old coo’s some of the time and sleeps most of the time (sleeping on my chest at the moment – love it!). But back to when I feel I need help my mom helps me by keeping my sane. WRT taking a walk in a mall and forgetting about house work, what to make for dinner will my picky 4 year old eat the food I was stressing about whole day to make just so she gets all the nutrients, stressing if hubby is happy with the relationship, house and us. Am I playing enough with my 4 month old. If I’m a sexy mommy as all the other mommies around me. When I go back to finding work, will I find work. All the thoughts that trap me when I’m home alone with baby.

Then my mommy swoops in and we roam around the mall for a few hours, sometimes doing the much needed shopping or just Window shopping. Sometimes I even realize we didn’t do much talking. Just walking. And that is the best help I could ever have asked for.

P’s; blogs like yours helps a lot too ๐Ÿ˜‰ (oops Maia calling.

    Have a good day

I have to admit that when I went shopping with my son Caleb as a baby I had very little problems, he slept most of the time & only really woke if we sat down for coffee & a light meal, very little fuss. Fast forward 3 years later going to the shops with him= nightmare! “I want this, I want that” & dare say no & the rest of the mall will hear his lung capacity so for now either me or my husband stays home & one of us heads out for shopping. I am 34weeks pregnant with my second son so online shopping is definetly going to be my new best friend ๐Ÿ™‚

My 7 month old miracle has severe heart defects, she survived birth and her 1st open heart surgery, and yesterday had to be resuscitated after a reaction from the propofol in her anesthetic mix while in theatre for her 2nd cardiac catheter and atrial septostomy. She is stable now and in Cardiac ICU. There are many more procedures and open heart surgeries ahead, we pray that God will bring her through every one…she is our hero, her strength and resilience is amazing! We are awaiting her test and blood results. My girls are my EVERYTHING, God has blessed me richly and I cannot imagine life without them!

I am a young mother of two kids, my youngest being my daughter who is ten months old and my son who is 5 years old, being a mother is one experience i would’t trade in for anything. No matter how awful of a day I have had or how sad I am, just one look into my kids eyes is enough to make my world so much better. The love we as mother’s have for our kids is not something you can easily describe… The smile on my daughters face when I walk i n the house from work is enough to melt any heart. Your children are one of the few people who are always truly very happy to see you (that is when they are still small enough to appreciate you…lol)

I had my son when I was quite young so therefore I missed out on most things most people would consider fun but I would never change any experience of being a mom.

Let me say that I can completely relate to the late message replies, arriving late for a girls out date with friends, or having to check your house 3-4 times to make sure you have taken everything that is meant to accompany you to where ever it is that you’re headed… I have had them all… ๐Ÿ™‚
I am currently a mom of 3 bubbly and highly energetic boys and expecting my 4th (which we are holding thumbs for that its the girl we want) and a working woman (8:30-5pm daily) who needs to also be on top of things on the wife front because my husband is the head Pastor of our church (sjooo!) just saying all that gives me head spins… lol… I applaud you for still looking absolutely graceful and gorgeous because I absolutely know what dedication that takes in between filling the three roles of “mother, wife, career woman” because I can gladly say that I still manage to rock my size 28 jeans with ease and confidence…..
Lady dear, u just continue mothering your boy with the intuition that amazingly comes from the minute you find out you’re expecting and u will c that everything else will fall into place. You are doing a great job and looking ravishing while doing it, so u must be doing something right!… To u “U GO GIRL” … XoXo …. he is blessed to have you as his mom and mothering is a gift, which is sadly not granted to all so embrace it and it will embrace u.

My wife recently become a first time mom and obviously myself a first time dad. We were both scared and afraid. With modern times being as hard as they are we decided to have her be a stay at home mom. Since there is so much to do with our little one online shopping has enabled her to be able to give something very few mothers can, her full attention without compromise. Kalahari and Me, Mom & Dad have made this all possible.
Watching her grow is something that gives me great pleasure and nothing is more awesome than coming home from an 18 hour shift at a very demanding job and they are both just so happy to see me. The smiles just make it all worth while.

I have a cute niece who is as fat as a bundle with rosey red cheeks and an adorable laugh that just makes me wanna tickle her so I can hear her laugh again. And also I’ve got a down syndrome baby brother who I had to care for since he was small. If only my mother knew about online shopping that time it wouldve saved me a lot of grief but alas everything does not work out like you want it. If and when I do get to become a mother, hopefully in the laate future, I hope I feel that rush of maternal love I see most women have to their children. Thank you God/Allah for such a wonderful creation known as a sweet dimpled baby.
Thanks Joan for an awesome blog on online shopping I’m sure to pass the news on to my sister in law !

    Good morning Ms Strauss,
Congratulations on having your first baby. I know that this journey you’ve embarked on will be your best to date and you’ll find it your first actual adventure yet.
We have 2 boys (6 years and 3 years) and expecting our 3rd blessing in 2.5 weeks time. Despite a few scans we still don’t know if we need pink or blue so we’re just praying for a healthy little angel again.
I didn’t know you had a blog and will definitely add it to my favourites list for daily reading.
I also enjoy online shopping tremendously, especially for those special gift items for the whole family. I must admit though, I’m a bit more adventurous with the shopping and give my boys (fingers crossed soon girl too) one day a month of going mad in the shops hahahaha!
So, whether I win these gorgeous booties or not, thanks for always keeping it real and thanks for the fabulous links (which contain a few of my go to’s too). Can’t wait to see what I can get on the others hehehe. Hope you and baby have a wonderful weekend and get lots of rest.

Shopping used to be my favourist thing ever. It was my passion. Even buying bread and milk at the corner cafe was fun for. I am blessed with a little boy, Blayne who is 3 and 7 months pregnant with my second. And now that i am a mom shopping is like mission impossible. From circling the parking lots, as the 2 mommy and baby parking bays are ALWAYS taken. To finding a decent trolley – I always get the one with the wonky wheel. To having random strangers comment on HOW HUGE I am and insisting it must be twins (letโ€™s be honest I am carrying big, Iยดm 1.55m and baby already weighs 1.8kg)
I donโ€™t even bother with clothing shopping for myself as fitting rooms are just too small and way too hot for a mom and toddler, who insists on asking the most inappropriate questions. And the unstable mannequins he somehow always manages to knock over. Once Blayne fell asleep over my shoulder which seemed cool cos now i could browse in peace but somehow before dozing off he managed to pick up a clothing item on a hanger. I left the shop totally oblivious and every shop we went into the alarm went off. Me none the wiser just carried on till eventually a stranger realised i couldnโ€™t see what was in his hand and pointed out it was triggering the alarms. I had to go back to shop and the security was totally baffled.
Grocery shopping at times can prove to be equally trying. Blayne has food allergies so I am an avid label inspector. He usually takes this opportunity fill the trolley with whatever is in his reach which leads to the quick fix; giving him something to munch on. Which buys you some timeโ€ฆ. and just when you think you are about done Blayne needs the toilet!!!! Then itโ€™s off to find a kind shop assistant or security to watch your trolley and you get that suspicious look as your trolley has an open juice and packet of chips in it. You then race down through the mall/shop (with Chariots of Fire playing in the back of your mind) to the nearest public toilet which is at the furthest point of the shop. Calming Blayne with a just breathe mantra (which is more for my benefit) Praying that you have a R1 coin to put in the slot to get in. Then finally after wiping down almost the whole toilet – You go back to get your trolley thank security profusely while he radioยดs the undercover security to keep an eye on you. You eventually make it to the line and take the walk of shame to the till- First past all the mags, promising tips on making everything better and slimmer. And would you believe they have even packed kiddies Disney mags at till points. Fantastic Marketing Strategy. Then past all the most delicious and tempting sweets. And all resistance crumble and to make matters worse they now have ola ice cream fridges at every till and you think thatโ€™s the worst you then realise that you need to go to the toilet. Panic sets in, with the till point in sight do you turn back or be brave and try clench with the might of God. A few times Iโ€™ve been lucky cos Blayne can usually tell by the terrified look on my face that i need to pee and he says ” just breath mommy, just breath” This usually scares the other shoppers and some will let me go infront of them – there are time when do feel bad but i am more grateful to God for small mercy. You eventually get to the till and just say yes to everything the cashier says so i end up buying airtime even tho Iยดm on contract, and paying for all the crazy stuff Blayne has managed to smuggle into the trolley. And then there you are once again waddle run with chariots of fire through the mall only to find that you are not allowed to take trolleys in to the Public toilets. So you leave all your groceries and pray to God that no would steal them.
4 hours later, searching for your parking ticket โ€“ you see the biggest friendly smile; renewing your faith in humanity. You emotionally hold on to the car guard as he escorts you to the car like youยดre the only girl in the world. You realize it wasnโ€™t as bad as it felt at least I am able to go and shop. It reminds me of my many blessings; my children, my job, my car and my life. So I am yet to try online shopping (Iยดm old skool like that) but shopping now may not be as much fun as it used but it sure does put things in perspective for me and gives me an opportunity to be grateful.

I am new to all of this after 15 years..yes my last born en new born is 15 years apart..we had a laat lammetjie on the 13th of May..we are so thankful for our gift from God..his just so perfect..I am 40 + and am enjoying him so much..every single day is amazing ..sometimes tiring expecially at night when he cries because of cramps.. When everyone believes that a mom should know what to do..but even after the previous 3 kids I still am just human and don’t have the foolproof recipe..then the 2 of us sit and talk..yes Matthew then listens very attentively to my voice..our special time when the house is quiet in the small of the night..some nights we listen to lullabyes..but we do get through the challenging times..but I still do enjoy my baby..15 years ago we were not so technologized as we are today..or should I say I was a very conservative mom than with not alotta of money to spend..I still did the knitted booties and jerseys then.. It was the in thing even today still in some communities a child must get a set from the favourite tannie..my son has a pair of white knitted hand me down booties from a cousin of me against my husbands wishes..and he looks so cute in it.. Some traditions that don’t die out..and I’m so glad that we still so have some left..I can write a book about my experience as a new mom..I treasure the next few months with Matthew before going back to work in August..

I don’t do online shopping. I can definitely relate to the screaming tantrums in store though. Like so cool. I prefer physically going to the store, it’s a cost saving exercise for me else I would buy too many things in view of the variety online. I also tend to buy my sons baby goods in bulk that way it lasts a while. I’m also very fussy with the baby clothes. I want to check the quality of the fabric and texture (sometimes no logic goes into kids clothes these days) sometimes the fabrics are scratchy unless you buy from Earth Child, the fabrics are amazing and Eco friendly ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Dear Jo-Ann

Your blog has been so refreshing and fun to read; in the midst of experiencing a combination of excitement and anxiety at becoming a first-time Mother. We are expecting our baby boy in August, and are so blessed to have this privilege of carrying and being entrusted with this life growing inside of me.

I just wanted to thank you for this initaive which you have started with Modern-Mommy as it really warms my heart and gives me such comfort to read your blogs (and a much needed time-out from work priorities:)

And thank you for sharing these convenient websites! My husband and I now spend our evenings browsing these sites and it is quite difficult to hold back and not do “emotional spending” ๐Ÿ™‚

I wish you every success with your Modern-Mommy venture and trust that I will be following.

    Best Regards
    Olivia
