I recently had the privilege of flying to Monaco to host an incredible event to raise funds to build an aquatic rescue centre in Burkina Faso with the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation.
What a wonderful foundation and such a wonderful cause. Most people don’t realise that more children die every year from drowning than from Malaria. We really need to do much more in terms of awareness with regards to water safety and the Princess is so passionate about this particular cause and I absolutely applaud her for it. She is a mom of two herself and is working hard to ensure that others are aware of how important it is to know how to prevent drownings and save lives.
This below is just an extract from the official press release:
“The funds raised will be used to create an aquatic rescue center in Burkina Faso. The Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation partnered with the Monaco Red Cross and Burkina Faso Red Cross in order to implement this project. The live and silent auctions raised 266.150 €.
The evening was presented by Mrs. Jo-Ann Strauss, a South African TV star and Goodwill ambassador for Unicef.
The music bands Garçons Chics, Capital Collective and the South African choir Cenestra Male Choir provided the entertainment for the evening.
Among the participants who attended the gala dinner, we can name Mr. Georges Marsan, Mayor of Monaco, Mr. Jacques Raffaele, Mayor of la Turbie, Mr. Frédéric Platini, Secretary General of the Monaco Red Cross, Mr. Michael et Gareth Wittstock, Mr. Brett Gosper, CEO of World Rugby, Mr. Judah Schiller, creator of the water bikes “Schiller Bikes”,Mrs. Stéphanie Barneix, inshore rescue and paddle board world champion, Mrs. Paula Radcliffe, marathon world record holder, Mr. Kevin Crovetto, gymnast, Mr. Jérôme d’Ambrosio, race car driver, Mr. Pierre Frolla, four-time world record holder in free diving and ambassador for the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation, Mr. Valère Germain, AS Monaco striker, Mr. Esteban Lozada, former Captain of the RC Toulon rugby team and Argentinian international, Mr. Dan Luger, rugby world champion with England, Mr. Luciano Orquera, former Italian international rugby player, Mr. Bruno Senna, race car driver and ambassador for the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation.

The “Riviera Water Bike Challenge” fits the philosophy and values of the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation: team spirit, self-respect and respect for others, discipline and appreciation of hard work. The choice of a relay race is the embodiment of mutual aid and team work.
