Bye bye bad hair days and win a frizz free hamper :-)

So, it’s been a crazily hectic month of travel and work and I’m settling down to a mild gallop … well, sort of! I was really fortunate to travel to Dubai and Monaco in this past month and across the country back home in South Africa, but this travel is starting to take its toll. Well, not just on my family time, but on my body (haven’t been able to get in ANY gym time, besides running through airports) and my hair. I must be honest, I am a very low-maintenance type of woman who prefers painting her own nails at home (or secretly in the bathroom at an event before going on stage), so I don’t often get a chance to go the beauty salon or hair salon for that matter. The joys of non-stop air travel are that you are constantly tired and in an artificial climate zone and that does eventually start leaving you looking a bit worse for wear.

I had been sent a number of products from John Frieda (yes, they ARE paying for me to review their product, but I am giving it a fair go) with the promise of Frizz-Free hair – even when wearing my natural curls. Usually, I stick to what I know and am not that keen to change up my routine as I like fail-proof products and cannot afford any mistakes on my crowning glory, especially as I have been shooting non-stop and on stage for highly photographed events. So, a hair disaster would not go unnoticed 😉

I know the famous song (which I LOVE) “I am not my hair” is a political statement, but when it comes to my psychological state – I quite simply AM my hair. A good hair day to me equals confidence and so, I am very careful about not changing up too much and sticking to what works for me. So, when I tried the John Frieda Frizz-Ease Miraculous Recovery Intensity Masque (which promises to ease the frizz too), I wasn’t expecting much.

Fast forward a few minutes and I was pleasantly surprised with the results. The amount of heat damage my mane has to endure during shoots is quite intense and leads to my hair losing much moisture which in turn leads to frizziness. This incredible little “miracle” treatment managed to quench my hair’s thirst and took away the frizziness with ease. So, thanks for the introduction to your range, John Frieda (their products are available exclusively from Clicks in store and online), and let me know if you’d like to win a Frizz Free Haircare hamper in the comments section below.

    Hey Modern Mommy,

I enjoy wearing my hair in its natural curly state. I do however find that it often gets very frizzy and damaged due to constant exposure to water, the sun and so forth.
My husband too wears a huge mane. And both of us basically end up standing with a conditioner bottle in hand each morning trying to tame the manes. hahaha.
This review is awesome and I would LOVE to be considered to receive a hamper like this 🙂
Thank you once again for your amazing content. Your posts are always a refreshing and real read that is very enjoyable!

Love this! Love natural hair!!! I too have curly hair…but sometimes it has a will of its own! I work in the legal environment and sometimes big is not always so appropriate, so I’ll put it in a bun. I don’t like applying heat to my hair as I’ve notice it becomes brittle and thins out. Many days it starts off as beautiful curls, but after it drys out…Yucks… it can become a person on its own!!! hahaha! Love this post! Would absolutely love to try this out! #naturallycurly #naturallycurvy #bighairdontcare

Yes please, I don’t like wearing my natural curls due to frizz but if i have solution, I’d love it! My curls normally start off quite tame and and then BAM! I tried a few products but vthey weigh my hair down so i resort to straightening. This will will definitely make wearing natural curls easier and manageable

Hi Joanne, I am a mommy of two, before kids it was all about highlights and fighting the curls to get the look I wanted. These days, hair darker after two kids, it is all about perfecting what was given to me! Curly hair, when you learn to stop fighting it, is the easiest style to rock! My secret is to leave the conditioner in, no excessive towel drying (hubby’s T shirts works best for excess water) & let it dry naturally, touching it as little as possible! Would love to explore the John Frieda range! Justine xx

I haven’t always loved my curls but I’ve learned to embrace it, for myself and my five year old curly-haired daughter. I’d like her to grow up loving her curls and being confident about it. As much as I love my curls it can be high maintenance especially if you don’t have the right hair products. I haven’t found anything yet that nourishes and emphasizes my curls. I’d love to try the John Frieda Frizz Free Range!

I always struggle to find the right product, and have absolutely no faith in most hair products so i opt for a tie-back, and i look dreadful, because id get into my car with curls in place, take a glance in my rearview mirror, and shock horror, there’s simba! So thank you for the share. Did you only use the one product?

    Hi Momo,

Absolutely in awe of how you are juggling work with the kids, you are truly an inspiration

My hair is very frizzy but not the nice kind where you can actually wash and go so I always end up straightening it, Its a mission because I have first have to blow dry it and then iron afterwards to prevent any frizz and its not always easy with two little girls,

    Keep up the great work,

    Farhana

I had gorgeous curls but due to straightening and relaxers it’s just not the same anymore. My daily hairstyle is a bun I am referred to as the girl with the pom pom(palmface). I would love to be able to wear my hair again the way you wearing it on this pic. Would love to try these products.

Curly hair all the way for me, I’ve been a natural all my life, that being said, it doesn’t make it any easier to manage. You’d think by now I would have had this hair game down..but no. My hair has its days, it’s unruly some days and then absolutely fabulous in others, it’s never in between. KINDA like All or Nothing lol. I would love to win this hamper, to experience the John Frieda range.
Thank you an amazing blog and for reminding us mommies that it’s absolutely possible to be fabulous and a mommy at the same time! Mwah.

I love your natural curls look Jo-Anne. I am still building up the courage to not style mine “half up half down” but hopefully with this range of John Frieda Frizz Free products I will be confident enough to let it all hang loose 🙂

    Hi modern mommy

I would love to win a hamper and try out these products. I too am a ‘stick to what I know’ kind of girl especially when it comes to my hair. My hair ‘frizzes’ really easily – if it comes into contact with little bit of moisture I need to take out my hair clip… So, I often leave my curly/frizzy if it’s humid or rainy and straighten it when I have time (like two days before an event) – then it’s got less of a chance of frizzing up on me… I have to say that there older I have gotten the more I have embraced my hair and it’s natural curl. I no longer wish for straight hair I am happy to have the best of both worlds… I probably should spend a bit more time on what really works for my hair to make sure it’s always in great shape…. Hopefully winning this amazing hamper will get me started.

    Take care,
    Danelle

    Hi Jo
I often say that we are fortunate to have the best of both worlds:)
We can wear our hair curly and care-free or straight and sleek! What more could a girl ask for? I love switching my look up and don’t mind testing new products on my hair (within reason). On the days that I need a quick-fix and don’t have the time or the money to go to a hairsalon, I embrace my curls and often get asked if my hair is real hehehe, this always surprises me I must admit.
I love John Frieda products and would love to give the anti-frizz a go. A girl’s got nothing to lose but the frizz lol 😉

Have a fantastic one Jo and thank you for the complete honestly in your blogs. They are so refreshing.

I’m a Natural curl sista for 8 months now! I decided to embrace my natural curl, and wear my crown like God created me. Being natural is the best decision i ever made… I feel FREE but whenever i straighten my hair it feels like im portraying someone else. I wash my hair once a week with Curl Chemistry Sulphate free shampoo followed by their Deep condition and then apply a curl activating cream to moisturize my curls. At night i put my hair in a pineapple bun and sleep on a satin pillow case as a cotton pillow case draws the moisture from your hair, and the friction of the pillow case cause frizz. In the morning i just loosen the bun and apply a little bit of olive oil and im good to go. If i see my hair looks a little dry somewhere in the week i take my spritz bottle and just spray a little water on my hair and freshen it up with the curl cream.
Cant wait to say Bye to my bad hair days and WIN your Frizz free hamper. #EkKoesterMyKrul

Mommy to a 9week old. Gosh, I thought I knew what exhausted was before becoming a mother, boy was I wrong. Anything that makes getting through my day quicker is a life saver. With 5 minute showers and no time to style/ straighten my hair this product will help me to feel like me with a lot less effort than I am use to.

    Hi Modern Mommy…
Im a first time mom with extremely curly hair.Prior to having my babygirl I’d spend a great deal of my time taming my mane at the salon(and at home too!) because I love wearing it straight! However I no longer have the leisure of spending all that time with my hair(I’d much rather spend it with my kiddo really). However I want to find something that will do the trick quickly so I can enjoy other things and still have the look I prefer!:)

I would love to win this, after many many years of drying and damaging my hair i am now trying to embrace and love the natural state of my hair which is actually harder then i thought lol because i can not control how it will end up and not knowing the tricks at all and being very lost in the hair department doesn’t help at all which leaves me very self conscious. I must say i am picking many tips in the comments section i will most def try some.
